The Chicagoland Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is accepting public comment on the draft of their ON TO 2050 Regional Plan Draft. Information on the plan and the process for reviewing it is available here. Comments will be accepted until August 14, and can be submitted online, by email, phone, or mail. CMAP is also holding open houses on the plan throughout the Chicagoland region. Remaining open houses are scheduled for July 17, 18, 19 and 25. Locations and further details are available here.

The plan is one piece of CMAP’s efforts to increase intergovernmental cooperation in northeastern Illinois toward shared principles of resilience, inclusive growth, and prioritized investment. The plan recommends that we prioritize our limited transportation dollars on major capital projects that focus on existing communities rather than new highways that further decentralize our region. In a victory for environmental groups and local communities, the draft report has downgraded both the Route 53 extension and the Illiana tollway.

We encourage all Go Green Illinois member groups to review the plan here and submit your comments here before August 14.
