The Greenest Region Corps (https://mayorscaucus.org/greenest-region-corps/) is a partnership between the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and AmeriCorps to find enthusiastic members to lead sustainability projects in a select group of Chicago region communities. Greenest Region Corps members work directly for a community on a project that results in greater environmental awareness and stewardship. Members are recruited and administered by the Mayors Caucus, but will be placed directly in one of twelve community locations. In addition, members will receive training and mentoring from staff at the U.S. EPA Region 5 Office in Chicago and Moraine Valley Community College. The program is anticipated to start in October 2019. Members will be paid a living allowance and will be provided health insurance. Upon completion of the program, members will be eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Educational Award. The Greenest Region Corps is AmeriCorps funded, and is a project of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and Serve Illinois Commission.

Each member of the Greenest Region Corps will focus on one or more of the following work areas: Sustainability Planning; Recycling; Energy Efficiency; and Urban Forestry. Based on their placement members will be responsible for a range of activities and tasks, including but not limited to community engagement and outreach, data collection and analysis, community education, and helping to write and/or update municipal sustainability plans.
