At our July GGI meeting, we learned about Light Pollution from representatives of the Adler Planetarium and the International Dark Skies Association. You can easily start by reducing light pollution at home and in your neighborhood. Some simple steps include shielding lights so that they point down, buying bulbs that are less intense and a lower kelvin rating (under 2700K for LEDs), and reducing the use of lights when they aren’t needed with a timer or a motion sensor. More information is here. Sample letters that you can send to your neighbors about this issue are on the resources page here. You can watch a webinar on the topic here.
