Climate Reality Project: Chicago Metro Chapter recently hosted a webinar to help schools reduce emissions through electrification and energy efficiency, and take advantage of funding available through ComEd to help. Please share this information with your school districts.
Our schools may be missing out on state funds that would help them save money and lower their costs for electrification. Many are unaware of a state program designed to help schools lower their electrification expenditures and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The Public Schools Carbon-Free Assessment program, a state program designed to lower emissions from one of our region’s largest emitters of greenhouse gases, is completely free for school districts. Buildings account for approximately 70% of greenhouse gas emissions in Chicago and roughly 35% across the region.
The webinar can be viewed here and features Adam Koch, an energy advisor who works with ComEd, discussing how schools can take advantage of the free consulting help ComEd offers schools to reduce energy costs; and Chuck Freundt of Naperville School District 203 on how his district developed and implemented its carbon action plan, progress to date and what they learned.
The Climate Reality Project was founded by former Vice President Al Gore to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every sector of society. The Chicago Metro Chapter is one of 100 chapters across the country in addition to 11 international branches.
