We all love our beaches. However, in a world where scientists predict there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050, we have our work cut out for us. Just because we don’t live by the ocean does not mean that Illinois’ trash won’t find its way into our natural resources. The #5minutebeachcleanup movement began in Costa Rica, and Go Green Wilmette would like to continue it here. Whether it’s the beaches of Lake Michigan or the shores of your favorite local lake, here’s your task: set a timer and pick up as much trash as you can in five minutes. Then, post on Facebook or Instagram with the tag #5minutebeachcleanup to join the movement. Let’s work together to keep our beaches, and our world, free from pollution!
